Chromium is an essential trace mineral that makes insulin more efficient. Chromium repartitions the body by causing glucose disposal into muscle cells instead of fat cells. What this is saying in laymens terms is that while taking chromium, it will help shuttle sugars and carbohydrates into the muscles as opposed to putting them directly into the fat cells causing you to gain weight that you are not wanting to. This does not mean to start eating a bunch of bullshit and expect not to get fat. It just gives you a little more room for error. Foods such as brewer's yeast or cinnamon are good sources of chromium but most bodybuilders would want to supplement chromium instead to get a higher dose. The two forms of chromium that are available are chromium picolinate and chromium polynicotinate. My recommendation is to go ahead and use it. Why leave anything to chance? Some people will argue that it doesn't do anything for you at all but the price is right on it. It is very cheap (cost is about $10 for 120 capsules at 200 mcg. each). I can't tell that by itself it did a whole lot but if you are dieting there is some merit to using it. Some of the other supplements on this list already have it in there such as Ripped Fuel, etc. so it would not be necessary to purchase individually if you were already going to get other stuff. The recommended dosage varies from 400 mcg - 1000 mcg. per day. Some of the good brands to use are Twin Labs and Sportpharma. |
